Henderson - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for Irene Courville Bergeron, 77, who passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018. Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Wednesday and continue until 12:30 p.m. Thursday. A rosary was prayed on Wednesday. Rev. Garrett Savoie officiated at the Funeral Mass. Readers were Regina Disotell, Jenna and Katie Duplechien. Gift bearers were Emily and Khloe Duplechien and Falyn Frederick. Interment followed at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Henderson. Irene was born in HendersonA to the late Jean Sr. and Alcide Thibodeaux Courville. She was a funeral home attendant for Pellerin Funeral Homes for over 25 years. Irene also volunteered her time as a leader in the Girl Scouts. A devout Catholic, Irene enjoyed going to church and made her Cursillo. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, eating out at Pat’s, spending time with family and friends, spoiling her grandchildren, and decorating for holidays, especially Halloween when the kids would go over for candy. She loved her dog, Snowball, her “other son” as she would call him. Irene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughters, Penny Duplechien and husband Dale, and Carlena Bergeron; son, Tex Bergeron and wife Stacy; brother, Leus “Dubee” Courville and wife Charlene; sisters-in-law, Yola Courville, Mary Courville and Birdie Pitt Guidry; grandchildren, Ace Duplechien, Axle Frederick, Garth Frederick, Regina Disotell, Trevor Bergeron, Misty Duke and Alana Duke; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Kaitlyn, Emily, Khloe, Addi, Chanler, Falyn, Blaire, Claire, Luca, Quynn, Kaylee, Walker, Allyson and Ember; and a great-great-grandchild, Ayce. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest “DD” Bergeron; brothers, Alton, Preston, John Jr., “Fiss” and Abel “Joe” Courville; and sister, Helen Collette. Pallbearers were Ace Duplechien, Axle Frederick, Garth Frederick, Trevor Bergeron, Ray Courville and Timmy Courville. Honorary pallbearers were Tex Bergeron, Leus “Dubee” Courville, Dale Duplechien and Sherbin Collette. The family would like to give thanks to Dr. Banshauli, the 5th floor nursing staff at Lafayette General Medical Center, and Hospice of Acadiana for the time and attention they gave to Irene during her time of need.
