New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial for Ruby D. Begnaud, 87, was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, 130 N. Richelieu Circle, with Fr. Ed Degeyter as Celebrant. Entombment followed in Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum.
Visitation was held at David Funeral Home on Monday, July 2, 2018, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and continued on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Recitation of the Rosary was prayed at the funeral home on Monday, July 2, 2018, at 6 p.m. with the Ladies Rosary Group.
A native of Breaux Bridge and a resident of New Iberia, she went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2018, at 3 p.m. with her sons at her side.
Ruby and her husband Clarence were amongst the founding members of the Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband, family and friends, meeting people and making friends in their many camping adventures around North America. Ruby and Clarence were members of “The Cruisin Cajuns RV Club.” She loved to cook, enjoyed having coffee with friends, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
She is survived by her sons, Charlie Begnaud Sr. and his wife Annette of New Iberia, and Joey Begnaud and his wife Lanny of Loreauville; grandchildren, Charlie Begnaud II, Danet Marie Begnaud, Joshua Begnaud, Jed Begnaud and Ory Begnaud; great-grandchildren, Carleigh Begnaud, Madeline Begnaud, Gabrielle Begnaud, Triston Begnaud and Aubrey Begnaud; and great-great-grandchildren, Avery and Charlotte Begnaud; and sister-in-law, Mildred Begnaud Huval.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Clarence P. Begnaud; son, Marine Lance Corporal Danny Begnaud; parents, Archangé Dore and Elise Robert Dore; siblings, Gertrude Hebert, Ann Thibodeaux, twin sister Ruth “Lou” LeBlanc, Oscar Dore and Wesley Dore.
Pallbearers were Charlie Begnaud II, Joshua Begnaud, Jed Begnaud, Ory Begnaud and God-sons Randy Leblanc and Tommy Viator.
Honorary pallbearers were Brian Huval, Mike Huval, Tommy Begnaud and Wayne Begnaud.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Acadian Hospice, her sitters Mary Reese and Winnie Dupuis, friends Mildred Begnaud Huval, Joyce Stringfellow, Georgia Guidry, Nanette Bayard and Barbara Breaux for the love and care which was given to their mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
