A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 201 Gary St., St. Martinville, from 9 a.m. until the Mass at 10 a.m.
Joseph, better known as “Snooky,” was a graduate of Adam Carlson High School’s Class of 1970 and served in the United States Army. He was a hard, dedicated worker for Motiva Oil Refinery for 44 years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, and working on various projects around his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson J. Ryes and Mary Lou Ryes; his grandparents, Vavasseur Matthews and Viola Benjamin Davis; and his daughter, Kimlette Ryes.
Joseph is survived by his son, Jason B. Chretien and his wife Anyia of St. Martinville; one daughter, Manishi Charles of Beaumont, Texas; five grandchildren, Keena, Kolbe and Kylen Chretien, Courtlynn Hayes and Javen Sims; three brothers, Alvin Ryes of Los Angeles, Cal., Hemson Ryes of Baton Rouge and Liney Ryes of Lafayette; one sister, Marlene Malveaux (Clifton) of Shreveport; a godson, Zachary Walker; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
