Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. on Monday and continued until the time of service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Deacon Ken Soignier officiated at the Funeral Service. 

Interment followed at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Henderson.

John was born December 11, 1935, in Breaux Bridge. He enjoyed deer hunting, carpentry, and woodworking. He was a jack of trades and a hard worker. John will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rona Wiltz Berard; sons, George Berard (Bobbie), Lester Berard (Marlene) and Kenneth Berard (Cindy); grandchildren, Ashley Nicole James, Bessie Stanford (Woody), Joshua Berard, Tabitha Berard, Kayla Berard and Kenneth James Berard; great-grandchildren, Alyse Irene James, Eugene “Bubba” James, Layla Stanford, Lyria Stanford and Autumn James; great-great- grandson, Caden Robert Thibodeaux; brother, Michael Berard (Billie); and sister, Louise Pontiff; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Theresa Serrette Berard; son, Richard Berard; brothers, Darrell “Mayeau” Berard, Antoine Berard, George Berard and Jerry Berard; sister, Louella Babineaux; and brother-in-law, Ronald Pontiff.

Pallbearers were George Berard, Kenneth Berard, Lester Berard, Kenneth James Berard, Jason Cole and Patrick Humphreys.

Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
