Breaux Bridge - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria A. Hebert Newland, a beloved mother, grandmother, and community pillar, who left us on February 19, 2025, at the age of 86. Gloria was born on July 20, 1938, in Abbeville, Louisiana, and spent her life dedicated to her family and her work in her cherished hometown of Breaux Bridge.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2025 at St. Bernard Catholic Church. A visitation took place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continued on Monday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

A rosary was recited by

Deacon Marcel “Butch” Hebert and the Catholic Daughters at 6 p.m on Sunday.

Fr. Reed Bellingham officiated at the Funeral Mass, assisted by Deacon Marcel “Butch” Hebert. Readers were Lauren Naquin and Courtney Newland. Gift bearers were Abigail Courville and Taylor Newland.

Burial followed at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2.

As the co-owner and operator of Hebert’s Supermarket, Gloria was known for her unwavering commitment to her business, proudly serving the community until the remarkable age of 85. Gloria loved shopping and dressing up. She was always made up beautifully! She also enjoyed sharing laughter over drinks and dinner at Lafonda’s Restaurant with friends and family. She was a cherished parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church. Her spirit and tenacity were matched only by her love for her family.

She is survived by her children, Ann Newland, Tina Leonard, and Frankie Newland Jr. (Monique); grandchildren, Lauren Naquin Hollier (Matthew), Aaron Naquin (Jessica), Blake Naquin (Treashur), Abigail Naquin Courville (Dexter), Brennan Leonard, Braxton Leonard, Taylor Newland (Courtney), Cole Newland (Mallory), and Cy Newland; 10 great grandchildren; and one brother, George Hebert, III.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Newland Sr.; parents, George Hebert, II and Enola Broussard Hebert; infant daughter, Gloria Ann Newland; and her special friends, Dale Fontenot and Clark Thibodeaux.

In her passing, Gloria leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Aaron Naquin, Blake Naquin, Taylor Newland, Brennan Leonard, Braxton Leonard, Cole Newland, and Cy Newland.

Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Hollier and Dexter Courville.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Heart of Hospice, especially nurse, Lana Martin, Deacon Butch Hebert, and her sitters, Mel, Bessie, Tracey, Tory, Rose and Kim for the care and love given to Gloria.

Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge (337332-2111) was in charge of arrangements.
