Genevieve Calais Cormier

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Genevieve Calais Cormier, age 94, who passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024 at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home in Arnaudville. The family requests that visitation be observed on Saturday from 10:30 am until the time of service.

Mrs. Cormier was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, & greatgrandmother. She was a lifelong parishioner at St. Bernard Catholic Church and spent many years in weekly adoration in the Chapel. She also had a special devotion to Mother Cabrini, was a member of the Catholic Daughters, and worked with various youth groups through the years. She and her husband, Eric, were avid supporters of the local sports teams and she served as chaperone for countless events. She was a phenomenal cook and over the years we often had many family

members and friends sharing our meals. She was employed in supervisory positions at both Gary Memorial Hospital and St. Agnes Healthcare in the Housekeeping & Dietary departments.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Smothers and her husband Neal, of Houston; two sons, Randy “Crip” Cormier, of Breaux Bridge, and Kenneth “Noo-Noo” Cormier, of Lafayette; one brother, Nolan Calais and his wife, Edna, of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and three grandchildren, Melissa Smothers, of Houston, Gabe Cormier and his wife Danielle, of Breaux Bridge, and Tony Smothers and his wife, Amanda, of Houston; and seven great-grandchildren, along with various nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric; her parents, Wade and Laura Leblanc Calais; her brothers, Bob and Malcolm Calais; and three sisters, Priscilla Gonsuron, Laura Lanaux, and Stella Rabalais.

Mrs. Cormier elected to donate her body to LSU Medical Science. The family wishes to extend their utmost gratitude to the staff and administration of J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home for the love and support shown to their mother over these past few years and also to Deacon Butch Hebert for officiating the service.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge.
