St. Martinville - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dutel Paul Delahoussaye, age 93, affectionately known as “Black,” who left this world on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

Born on October 23, 1931, in St. Martinville, Louisiana, Dutel lived a life marked by hard work, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church.

Visitation took place at the funeral home in St. Martinville on Tuesday from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

A rosary was prayed at 10:00 AM on Tuesday.

Monsignor Keith DeRouen officiated at the Funeral Mass. Readers were Lacey Theriot and Chloe Delahoussaye.

Dutel embarked on a lifelong career as an Operator 3 with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD). He dedicated over 30 years of his life to this work before discovering a passion in his lawn care and car wash business. He loved what he did and his family always stepped in to help with the businesses. His dedication and pride in his work were evident to all who knew him.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Black was a man of simple pleasures. Cherishing the moments spent outdoors, he enjoyed hunting squirrels and rabbits, often accompanied by his beloved hunting dogs. He was known to travel to the country when it was cold to shoot blackbirds, bringing them home for his wife, Lula “Loon”, to turn into a delicious jambalaya.

Black was a kindhearted man who knew no strangers, and he had a warm smile that could light up any room. To know Black was to love him, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his children, Linda Montet (Wayne), Diana LeBlanc, Danny Delahoussaye (Deanna), Gerald “T-Goo” Delahoussaye (Monica), and Craig Delahoussaye (Sheri); grandchildren, Christopher Montet, Shane LeBlanc (Mandy), Kasci Montet, Jamie Montet (Jason), Lacey Theriot (Jake), Jade Borel (Blaine), Madison Delahoussaye, and Chloe Delahoussaye; and his great-grandchildren, Austen Montet, Sydney LeBlanc, Lona LeBlanc, Alyssa Casey, Brielle Casey, Ava Theriot, Briggs Theriot, Carter Borel, Peyton Borel, and Cullen Delahoussaye.

He is preceded in death by his loving spouse, Lula Mae “Loon” Delahoussaye; parents, Alexis and Natalie Landry Delahoussaye; grandson, Derek Jude LeBlanc; and three brothers; and six sisters.

Pallbearers were Danny Delahoussaye, Gerald “T-Goo” Delahoussaye, Craig Delahoussaye, Shane LeBlanc, Jake Theriot, and Blaine Borel.

Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Montet, Jason Durand, Christopher Montet, and Carroll Delahoussaye.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Landmark of Acadiana and their staff, and Traditions Health Hospice for the compassionate care given to Dutel.
