Hollywood, Fla – A Memorial Mass was held on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church for Donald John Bernis, 85, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., who passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019. He was born in New Orleans on January 26, 1934. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years. Aftere nearly 20 years working as a private mechanic, he taught for nearly 25 years at Sheridan Vocational Tech and provided a fine example to his students when he earned an Associates Degree at age 52. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Christine Bernis; a son, Paul (Anne) Bernis; daughter, Diane (Tom) Andrew; grandchildren, Randy (Talyna) Patterson, Ryan (Chris) Bernis, Corey (Rebecca) Bernis, Abigail Martin, Robyn Andrew an Andrew (Seth) Bernis; great-granddaughters, Valentina Bernis, Vivian Martin and Victoria Bernis; sister, Georgette (Gary) Louiviere of St. Martinville; and brother, Willie (Priscilla) Bernis of St. Martinville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Olive Bernis; a son, Tommy Bernis; a daughter, Barbara Blount; sister, Jeanette Bernis; and brother, Branan Bernis. Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care of Pembroke Pines was in charge of arrangements.
