LouAnna Guidry Angelle

Cecilia – Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for LouAnna Guidry Angelle, 98, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at her home in Cecilia.

Entombment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.

Rev. Greg Cormier officiated at the Funeral Mass. Serving as lectors were Wendy Soto and Katherine Whittaker. Gift bearers were Ashley Angelle and Allen Soto.

Lou grew up in the Atchafalaya River Village, speaking French as her first language, and traveled to school by boat.  Those beginnings laid the ground work for her unending resourcefulness and ability to try and do most anything she set her mind to.

Her most cherished role in life was devoted wife and mother. She fell in love and married at 16.  Lou and Willie shared 67 years together and were blessed with five children. As a mother, she welcomed study group nights, slumber parties, and was a ready volunteer for school activities.  As a couple they graciously hosted large extended family gatherings over the years from the traditional boucherie to many splendid holiday meals – and, there was always room and plenty of food for one more.

Not only was she a fantastic cook and homemaker, she was a very talented seamstress, as well – anything from formal gowns to curtains and everything in-between.  It was nothing for her to dream up a new design and make it come to life that day.

Lou had always been an avid reader and got interested in what computers could offer. She was a mere 90-years old when she got her first electronics, jumped on FaceBook, and started sharing pictures and messages with friends. Also, there were many laughs and treasured memories that she held close to her heart with the ladies in her Pokeno and rosary groups.

Lou had a beautiful faith life. She prayed the rosary every day and had a special collection of prayers that she went through morning and night. She had a servant’s heart and was a selfless caregiver to many in her community – if you needed a home perm, a B-12 shot, or just a friend – a cup of coffee and an ear to listen were always there.

Survivors include her son, Randall John Angelle (Linda) of Baton Rouge; her daughters, Joyce Angelle Lott (Gerald) of Houston, Texas, Patricea ‘Patsy’ Angelle Berard (Lloyd J. Jr.) of Baton Rouge, Wendy Angelle Soto (Michael) of Tallahassee, Florida, and Angelic Angelle LeBlanc (Albert ‘Buz’) of Breaux Bridge; five grandchildren, Ashley Angelle, Reagan Angelle (Amber), Dr. Katherine Whittaker,  (Jonathan), Albert John Raia (Jessica) and Allen Soto; four great-grandchildren, Lake, William and Greyson Raia, and William Whittaker; and a myriad of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie ‘Poyo’ Angelle Jr.; her parents, Joseph Olivier ‘Vic’ and Lorena Angelle Guidry; and her siblings, Florence Guidry Scrantz (Alfred) and Leed Guidry (Verna).

Visiting hours were observed from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and continued at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning until services began at 10:30 a.m.

A rosary was recited in French at 7 p.m. on Monday evening by Yvonne Guidry, Jed Angelle and Ginger Taylor.

Pallbearers were  Randall Angelle, Reagan Angelle, Lloyd J. Berard Jr., A. John Raia, Michael Soto, Allen Soto and Albert ‘Buz’ LeBlanc.

Honorary Pallbearers were W. Gerald Lott, Jonathan Whittaker and Leonard Scrantz.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to her caregivers for the compassionate care and attention given to Lou during her time of need.
