Sosthene ‘Sos’ Joseph Amy

Sosthene Joseph Amy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the age of 77.

Born on August 25, 1945, in Lafayette, La., Sosthene’s life was filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to his family.

Though he faced challenges throughout his life, Sosthene’s spirit remained unbreakable.  Sosthene’s work included various roles as a carpenter, welder, and he also had the opportunity to work for Bruce’s Foods and the Fruit of the Loom Factory in St. Martinville.

However, it was his time as a crawfisherman and his stories of his tugboat days that truly captivated those around him.

With a strong faith in his heart, Sosthene loved attending Bible studies and nourishing his spiritual journey. In his leisure time, he found solace in the outdoors, enjoying fishing and camping trips that allowed him to connect with nature and spend quality time with his loved ones.

Sosthene’s true joy came from being surrounded by his cherished wife, Beverly Amy, and their children. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and strong family values, a testament to his 55 years of marriage. His daughters, Amanda Amy Guidry (Hubert) and Telecia Amy Chattos (Robert), were the pride and joy of his life.

Sosthene’s unconditional love extended to his grandchildren: Alicia Broussard (Lance), Christian Broussard (Patricia), Brandon Broussard (Ashleigh), Jenee Darby (Justin), Neva Kibodeaux (Nick), Cassidie Chattos, Macie Chattos, Laine Chattos (Hanna) and Konner Amy; and his great-grandchildren: John Broussard, Julianna Broussard, Jacob Broussard, Michael Broussard, Alivia Broussard, Reagan Broussard, Jackson Darby, Evelynne Kibodeaux, Maddox Chattos, Josie Chattos, Joslynne Chattos and Elliot Chattos.

He also leaves behind his brother, Rufus Amy Jr. (Joeanne); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Marie Wiltz Amy Sr.; his sisters, Mary Alice White and Virgil Hebert; his nephew, Michael Hebert; and two unborn children.

In honoring Sosthene’s memory, his family is planning a memorial service to honor his life at a later date. The service will be a time for family, friends, and loved ones to come together, reminisce on the beautiful moments shared, and find solace in one another’s company.

Sosthene Joseph Amy will be deeply missed, but his genuine kindness, warm smile, and memorable stories will forever be treasured by all who had the privilege to know him. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his family find comfort in the lasting memories they shared during his remarkable journey.
