Three seats to be decided in school board election

All ten St. Martin Parish School Board members are up for reelection this November, but just three seats will be in question.

Dist. Nine Representative Floyd Knott will not seek reelection. Last week’s qualifying period

saw three contenders enter the contest for his vacant seat. They are, in alphabetical order:

•Martin d’Augereau, of Breaux Bridge, White/Republican (W/R).

•Cheryl T. Knott, Arnudville, W/R.

•Tera Cormier Simon, Breaux Bridge, W/R.

The School Board Dist. Four seat, held currently by incumbent Jimmy “Coach” Durio will be contested. Durio, White/Independent (W/I), will face challenger Wayne Oubre W/no party.

In Dist. Five,  incumbent Russel Foti, W/R of St.  Martinville, will be challenged by Celeste Latiolais, W/I, also of St. Martinville.

The remaining seven board members will run opposed. Those incumbent representatives are:

•Dist. 1: Steve Fuselier, White/Democrat (W/D), St. Martinville,.

•Dist. 2: Wanda Vital, Black/Independent (B/I), St. Martinville.

•Dist. 3: Edna “Maw Maw” Mitchell-Johnson, Black/Democrat (B/D), St. Martinville.

•Dist 6:  Michael “Mike” Clay, W/R, Breaux Bridge.

•Dist 7: Richard Potier, Breaux Bridge, B/D.

•Dist. 8: Frederick Stelly, W/R, of Breaux Bridge.

•Dist. 10: Mark Hebert, W/I, of Cecilia.
